Camille is 26 and is married with a child aged 17 months and was pregnant at the time of the interview. She trained as a midwife before she left work to care for her daughter.

Carly is 30 and is married with two children aged 5 years and 5 months. She works in customer services.

Collette is 41 and is a teacher. She is separated and lives with her 2 year old son.

Courtney

Courtney is married and has given birth to one child and had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. She is a designer.

Elaine and David

Elaine and David are married. Elaine looks after the home and cares for their son who is 12 years old. David worked as a business analyst and is now retired.

Emily and Mike

Emily and Mike are married. Emily works as a personal assistant and Mike is a telecommunications engineer.

Helen is married and has given birth to two children. She is a lawyer.

Helen is 37 and is married. She used to work as a garment technician but now is a full time carer for her son aged 5 years and her daughter aged 4 months.

Kamie and Dale

Kamie and Dale live together. Kamie is 31 and is a sale advisor. Dale is 32 and is a power station operative. At the time of the interview they had a baby aged 4 months and also two children aged 8 and 10 years from previous relationships.

Kareena and Raj

Kareena and Raj are married. Kareena is 29 and is a teacher. Raj is 30 and works as a council technician.

Kelly

Kelly is 39 and is married. She has been pregnant five times and has children aged 2 and 3 years.

Kerry

Kerry is 47 with a son aged 8 years and 2 stepdaughters. She works as a legal executive assistant.

Kirsty and Matthew

Kirsty and Matthew are married. Kirsty is 37 and Matthew is 36 and they both work for the civil service. At the time of the interview they have two sons aged 2 years and 2 months.

Lindsay

Lindsay is married with two children and at the time of interview was 34 weeks pregnant with her third child. She is a trained speech and language therapist.

Lisa and Matt

Lisa and Matt are married. Lisa is 36 and works as a church women’s worker and Matt is 36 and works as a physiotherapist. They have a son who is 18 months old.

Liz is 40 and married with two children aged 1 and 2 ½ years. She works as a lawyer.

Loretta

Loretta is 54 and is divorced. She has two children aged 19 and 23 years. She works for the civil service.

Maxine and Steve

Maxine and Steve are married. Maxine is 35 and a teacher and Steve is 49 and is self-employed.
