Brief Outline:

Emily X is 16. Her periods are really painful on the first day and this can stop her doing things including missing school sometimes. She knew about periods and that they can be painful from learning about them from other people in her family and her sister. She has considered going to see a doctor, but hasn’t because she is not confident she would be offered help and she was not sure whether her pain is at a level where she should because it is so difficult to compare experiences of pain. She has found school helpful in terms of period products, but would like them to be more understanding about period pain and how it can impact on school. She would like doctors to be understanding about individual experiences and to not dismiss period pain and period problems.
